Hey again!
Today I had the pleasure of interviewing Nicky Peacock about her latest work and writing š
Q: Do you remember the first story you wrote?
Nicky Peacock:Ā The first story I ever wrote was about a scarecrow when I was 5 years old ā I was told off by my teacher because it came across as a bit sinister!
Q: Were you inspired by someone or something?
Nicky Peacock:Ā I think I was just fascinated with scarecrows at the time ā kind of still am.
Q: What do you love about writing a story?
Nicky Peacock:Ā I love shocking the reader ā whether itās a twist in a tale of an untrustworthy narrator. I aim to have them want to read it again.
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your latest book and the main characters?
Nicky Peacock:Ā My latest book is called āBad Bloodā and is a vampires VS zombies urban fantasy set in England. The main character is called Britannia and is really fun to write. The book is the first person from her point of view, and sheās a 4 hundred-year-old vampire with a short fuse and a long patriotic streak.
Q: How did you come up with the story for the book?
Nicky Peacock:Ā I read a lot and was actually looking for a vampires VS zombies book ā I couldnāt really find one, so thought Iād write it!
Q: How long did it take for you to write the book?
Nicky Peacock:Ā From start to finish ā about 6 months.
Q: What attracts you to Horror and the Paranormal?
Nicky Peacock:Ā I think itās always been a part of me. Ever since I was little Iāve been drawn to the genre. People rarely come to like horror ā you either love it, or you donāt.
Q: What do you like about writing short stories?
Nicky Peacock:Ā This is awful, but that they take less time. A short story can go from idea to publication within months ā a book can take years. I tend to have a lot of ideas, so I get excited about my latest one ā keeping the excitement alive for a longer manuscript can be difficult.
Q: Do you have any tips for aspiring writers?
Nicky Peacock:Ā Yes, join a writersā group. If thereās not one near you ā start one. Itās easier than you think (I did this myself)
Q: Which author inspires you?
Nicky Peacock:Ā I have quite a several authors who inspire me. I like the longevity of Charlaine Harrisā Sookie Stackhouse Characters. I like the poetic gore of Poppy Z Brite. Furthermore, I love the worlds created by Karen Marie Moning and Laurell K Hamilton. I also admire Amanda Hocking for showing that Indie can work.
Q: Where can people go and read your work?
Nicky Peacock:Ā I have an Amazon author page: http://www.amazon.com/Nicky-Peacock/e/B007UH2ACW/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_4 ā where you can see and buy all my published books.
Q: Where can people find you on the internet?
Nicky Peacock:Ā I have a blog: nickypeacockauthor.wordpress.com and Iām also on Twitter @nickyp_author. Feel free to friend me on Facebook too ā just input my name and check the photos for a scary-looking blonde!
Q: Is there anything else you want to share with the readers?
Nicky Peacock:Ā My latest book from Untreed Reads āYears End ā 14 Tales of Holiday Horrorā is out now ā itās a great read ready for the new year and can be downloaded straight from the publisherās website, or through Amazon on my page. Click the banner below to go to the page.
